The end?

A big thank you to year 8 for a brilliant trip: they have learned south about themselves and are a truly special group of children who will be friends for a long time.

Well done and don't forget what you have achieved and the fears and difficulties that you have over come.

Please remember the Rudgway mantra:

"Leave people and places in a better way than how you found them."

Life is a beach

After the stresses of last night, the skies cleared and we have spent a chilled out day on this beach ...

A bit of cricket ...

A bit of construction ...

A bit of boogie boarding and volleyball (photos to follow)

A picnic or two ...

And just chilling out.

A couple of competitive games for the Olimpets. ...

Dizzy Sticks

Tug of war

19-6=-2+15

We counted them out and we counted them back...

... And they did not just survive, they thrived. They rose to the challenges and enjoyed the experience, singing songs around a camp fire late into the night.

Star of the day ...

Scorer looking a bit suspect!

We are off to the beach ...

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Fishy friends

Competitive creelimg between the blues and reds ...

Please can we have our pen lid back?

Educated lobsters

And swap ...

The morning climbers are now out looking at John Ridgway's boats and learning of his adventures.

There will be some climbing pictures on the Ridhway website.

John Ridgway

We went to Ardmore on the landing craft to see the rowing boat that John Ridgway used to cross the Noryh Atlantic.
Three months at sea in this boat: two men and a lot of food and water.

This is a story that helps the children put tonight's survival experience into perspective. Also to think about teamwork and self-reliance.

Making friends ...

Next we are going to haul up the creels for competitive lobster catching...

Off to survival island

It was good to hear from the instructors that our children are really getting into the activities now and barely noticing the inclement weather (right clothes... Told you!).
They are off to survival island now and will have to make shelter, fire and food for themselves.
They seem excited by the prospect...

After brekky ...

Here are he scores for the Olimpets today ...

Blues: 9.    Reds: 11

New star of the day ...

... And then making lunch with these ingredients ...
And peanut butter, jam and marmalade ...
Sandwich-making is fun!

This is it ... The morning of the Athlon: a multi disciplined race involving all if the key skills learned each morning: running, swimming, walking and blindfolded kayaking...
Getting ready ..

Stretching at the starting line of the running race ...

Munday Morning ...

Then walking .. Carrying a holey tube of water ...

Blindfolded kayaking on a windy day ...

HMS Victorious ...

Let the swimmers sea the water ... One fledging penguin does not want to leave the safety of the pontoon ..

Victory is a dish best served cold ... In a wetsuit.

It's all about the team ...

... And the shades ...

... And the bacon and eggs for brekky!

1+7+6=20-1-5

Star of the day wearing his crown.

The rain has stopped and we are off we go on today's adventure.

The blues are planning to 'Search for Survival' (orienteering over a couple of square kilometres), but first, they must plan their route ... Who is going to get which posts?

The reds are going to learn how to build shelters ... A useful skill for Thursday night!

(-1x7)-6=2.0-15

After a quick sandwich and a drying off, we returned to the hills .. This time the reds searching to survive and the blues building shelters ...

Taking shelter

There's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes!

Searching .... For limpets!

This is a competition between the blues and the reds... They must locate the code hidden on posts around the landscape ... They then must crack the code, open the box, win some limpets and return victoriously to base for lunch.
The limpets are part of the Olimpets programme ...

We're all going up sunshine (!) mountain...

That way!

And they are off!
